You are now mature.

I have discovered just some of the benefits to teaching 12th graders.

One...
I was lucky enough to be able to attend the Maturandusz this year. About this time of year, each high school holds a "maturing ceremony."At the ceremony each student is given a pin (I got one too! Consider me mature.) and a flower signifying their entry into maturity and adulthood. I think I am giving this way more significance than necessary. In actuality, this is what they do instead of prom. I really enjoyed seeing all of my students dressed up in their fancy clothes, and looking so spiffy. It was a good moment to be able to participate in. I haven't been here long, but I get to see these kids become... a little bit more mature. Just a little bit. Hopefully.

Unfortunately, no teachers were invited to the after party.

Two...
They have been posting their senior photos on facebook. Now I remember taking these not too long ago, and somehow ridiculous things always make their way into the photo. I understand. I try not to laugh when I see each new batch, but I cannot help it. They are too good for words, but to share one here would be mean and inappropriate.

I do love high school from this side.

Three...
Counterpart: "Did you know that the 12th graders do not come to school the last 3 weeks of the semester?"
I HAD NO IDEA! Awesome.

I asked someone to take a photo with my camera... good enough.
